SHINE ON: KEEP YOUR STAINLESS STEEL SHINING

As with any stainless steel you own, keeping it shining can be a tough job. Proper cleaning not only helps to keep it looking new, but also aids in the protection of the metal. With 12 to 30% chromium, an invisible passive film covers the steel's surface acting as a shield against corrosion. As long as the film is intact; not broken or contaminated, the metal is passive and stainless. It may surprise you to know that the use of abrasive tools such as scrapers, steel pads, and wire brushes or chlorides invade the protective films allowing corrosion to start. We all know what happens next –rust.

To keep your stainless steel shining and rust free, use a soft cloth or plastic scouring pad and avoid using chlorides. Another culprit could be your water supply. It may contain high amounts of chlorides. Therefore, it is highly recommended to wipe down your equipment immediately after washing. Finally, let the fresh air finish the job.
