Define: Thermostat and infinite controller

Thermostat

Regulates temperature by sensing the surface or air temperature of a device. Once the temperature of the device is achieved, the thermostat opens and current is switched off. When the temperature falls below the set point the thermostat closes and current is on and the device repeats this cycle.

Advantages: Accurate, long life, consistent

Infinite Controller

An infinite heat controller is a rheostat that controls the incoming current to a device. It does not sense temperature of the device. The current to the device is always on unless the current is disconnected completely by a positive switch either internal or external to the controller.

Advantages: Does not need calibration
Disadvantages: Short life, higher energy consumption, inaccurate
