The current design of stainless steel pumps has captured balls in the cast valve to eliminate the risk of loss. Another improvement, over the years, has been to eliminate the discharge tube fitment - previously a risk for loss if not installed properly. Modifying the shape of the discharge tube completed that change. The stainless steel pumps were also redesigned to eliminate the knob o-ring by incorporating it into the head tube insert.
