NEWSWORTHY BITS AND PIECES

A couple informative nuggets below to keep you in the know on Server products:

dRY PRODUCT DISPENSER IS COMPETITION FINALISt

10th Annual FER: Smallwares Competition Awards Server DPD Finalist Status

The well-known publication, Foodservice Equipment Reports has run a Smallwares & Tabletop Competition for the past decade. To become a finalist, the product needs to be freshly designed, does not knock off anyone else's technology, and meets a particular need in the marketplace. Naturally, we entered our new Dry Product Dispenser.

Magazine editors evaluated more than 100 entries for contest criteria then finalists sent in their product for review. Judging took place on July 18, 2007, at the FER offices in Skokie, IL. The judges included three national dealer representatives (from Boelter, Edward Don & Wasserstrom) and three long-time chef operators. Look for full coverage of the competition in FER's October issue.

deep thoughts

Attention: consultants, dealers, chains and refrigeration companies

As you are aware, newer refrigeration for steam table pans has been made deeper to meet the more recent NSF Standard 7 Listing. The reason for this is that a flow of cold air is needed over the top of the food in order to keep the top layer below 41º F (5º C). This extra depth actually recesses the top of the pan 3" (7.6 cm) below the top lip of the refrigeration.
Lately, we have had some complaints that our stainless condiment pumps for steam table pans don't extend up far enough to permit dispensing onto plates or sandwiches. Enter our new line of tall pumps that have 3" taller spouts to work in the deeper refrigeration.

We think this offering will become more desirable as older refrigeration wears out and is replaced. By the way, we did not change the height of the standard pumps for a reason. We found that many of these are pumping ambient temperature products from counters that are cut out and there could be clearance problems with shelves or sneeze guards.

Here is the lineup and the list pricing:

real world solution for a catalog dealer

EZ-CreamHere is a tale that should interest you. Last year, a large catalog house that caters to supermarkets had seen our ad on the EZ-Cream . They contacted their Server representative and requested a sample showing. With the nod of approval, they
decided to feature it at their sales meeting and add it to their catalog. As a result, the catalog has moved 16 units, after only about 3 months. Ponder this as you decide on choosing your equipment offerings. This is a great example of the sales success a new item can achieve. (to top)

Relish Servers and Serving Stations

An open and shut case

Serving Station #67000The subject units were developed in the dim recesses of time and were made so that the lids covering the 1/6-size pans would stay open. In later years, certain realms (states and municipalities) decreed that such a lid "must closeth on its own when the operator's hand shall take leave of the lid". At last, we picked up the gauntlet and responded.

Over the next few months, you will see a new lid system incorporated into these units. There will be two sets of hinge pins on each hinge bracket attached to the base unit. If the lid's hinges are attached to the outside set of pins, the lid will stay open. When the hinges are attached to the inside pins, the lid will be self-closing. In the past, we sometimes accommodated requests for self-closing lids with a special unit. This change allows all standard units to be used either way. Send forth the heralds! (to top)

simplicity models discontinued

DISCONTINUED ITEMS

Due to a lack of sales, our Simplicity units have been discontinued. This covers the units listed below. For the few of you that have units placed in the field, we will continue to supply the #86151 Simplicity Pump well into the future. The biggest hurdle we encountered with these units was that we were late to the market. Most cheese manufacturers had already assigned SKUs to their bagged product with tubes packed in for use in peristaltic units. There was huge resistance to adding more SKUs on the part of manufacturers, chains and distributors. The early bird catches the worm.

Dealers:  Please remove these units from any catalogs or website pages -- place an instant success like the Dry Product Dispenser instead and make some sales with that precious space! (to top)
